Literary Tattoos: Edgar Allan Poe

I’m a huge fan of Edgar Allan Poe so I thought he’d be perfect for one of these Literary Tattoo posts. Poe themed tattoos rarely miss the mark with how creative and pretty they are, not to mention quotes from the writer himself.

Some of Poe’s most popular works include both poetry and short stories. The Raven, Annabel Lee, and To Helen are famous poems by him, while notable short stories include The Tell-Tale Heart, The Masque of the Red Death, and The Pit and The Pendulum. All of his stories and poems can be found in this collection of his writings.

Since it is Edgar Allan Poe, some of these tattoos can be perceived as a bit *creepy* or what have you so if that’s not your thing, here’s your warning. For everyone else, enjoy! 🙂

This tattoo is really interesting – I wonder why the face and head are distorted like that. Maybe it symbolizes Poe’s mental health issues? I’d love to know what your interpretation of this one is!

“I was never really insane except upon occasions when my heart was touched.” – Poe

This is a super cute tattoo for The Raven! It’s more on the simple side, which is nice.

On the opposite of simple, someone got a good chunk of The Raven tattooed on them, although it’s a bit out of order. That’s some dedication. (:

From Poe’s 1827 poem Tamerlane.

This quote is from the ever so popular poem Annabel Lee. What a classic.

This one is nice but all I can wonder is if they bled much. *cries* I have one shaded tattoo and my arm was like “we’re dying.”

I know a lot of these are from The Raven but this is also a really nice one – the little cherry blossoms brighten the whole thing up.

A portrait of Poe – sweet and simple.

"And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling - my darling - my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea-
In her tomb by the sounding sea."
-Annabel Lee

A nice forearm tattoo of a raven in a frame. This one is probably my favorite!

Did I say that other person was dedicated? I take it back. :s I personally want a lot of different quotes and words tattooed on me but I’m afraid I’ll run out of space and it’ll look something like this. It’s just not for me. The reason behind the tattoo is nice though and made me appreciate it more. You can read the story here.
