Monthly Wrap Up: January

So here we are at the end of January. This has been my official first month blogging with this new site and content and wow, has it been a learning curve. It’s also been an exciting, frustrating, and overall good month for me. I met a lot of really great people and I’m looking forward to the upcoming months!

I thought I’d do a monthly wrap up of my January posts and give you a brief rundown of each. I also hope to share some goals with you like what my goals were for the first month as well as what my new goals for February will be.

I think it’s good to post this. Not only for keeping myself accountable with my goals, but maybe this can give a little insight for newer bloggers.

January 2019 Goals:
  • Beat my old Pinterest view count of 28k
  • Get 1,000 followers on Twitter
  • Hit 500 page views
  • Post at least 5 times
  • Work on bookstagram account
  • Grow email list by 5

So how did I do?

Goal 1:

As I write this, My Pinterest view count stands at 40k so I was able to complete this goal. I attribute this increase to not only some of my blog pins going viral, but also from me taking the time to pin manually. Some bloggers prefer tailwind and some don’t. It doesn’t offer much in terms of my niche or what I would look for in a tribe.

So I just started to manually pin. It helped me keep better tabs on what my audience wanted.

So my goal for February would be to hit even more. If I can reach at least 50k or keep it above 40k for most of the month, I’ll consider it a success!

Goal 2:

This didn’t happen but I came fairly close, in my opinion. I’m currently at 872 so I’ve only got a little ways to go. I’ll definitely be working on this goal next month – just a bit differently.

For February, I want to not only hit 1,000 followers but I also want to interact more with the community. I’m shy and have a hard time reaching out so I definitely want February’s Twitter goal to be more about genuine connections and less about numbers.

Goal 3:

Hitting 500 page views probably would’ve been easier to do had I promoted my posts more or written a little more. I’m terrible at self-promoting. It’s the typical “i don’t want to seem salesy” fear of annoying people. I know twitter feeds change quickly and your tweet will be seen by only a few, unless you get lucky, so I need to work on this for sure.

My current page views are 494 and my goal for next month is to hit 1,000 total views. If I can write more posts and get a bit better at self promotion, I think I can hit that mark.

Goal 4:

Post at least 5 times. I published 6 posts as of writing this. This wrap up will be post number 7 for the “month” but I’m including the ones from late December as that’s when I got serious about content. The amount of times I can post is limited, since I spend most of my time working with horses. They’re extremely time consuming! The horses don’t care about writing or your blogging goals – I wish! So for the month of February, if I can hit 6 posts, I’ll definitely take it!

Goal 5:

I didn’t do a darn thing with my bookstagram account. I feel like no one cares unless you have a ton of props or merchandise to make it look so pretty. I’ve heard from many people that Instagram barely brings in traffic anyway so any goals for that platform will be on the back burner next month.

Goal 6:

I was able to hit my exact goal for this month. I’m so grateful to those on my email list. Thanks for signing up guys! I would love to add another 5 to the list in February. Depending on how many I actually get, it will decide future monthly goals for this as my blog grows. I’ll also need to look into getting some new, nice goodies for those of you that sign up! Keep an eye out for those!

Completing 50% of my goals is pretty good, in my opinion. I might have set the bar too high on a couple of those but hey, why not aim high?

So to be clear about my goals for February:

  • Keep Pinterest view count to over 40k – Hit 50k
  • Hit 1k twitter followers and make meaningful, genuine connections and friendships.
  • Get 1,000 total blog views.
  • Aim to post 6 times that month
  • Get 5 more email subscribers

I think I’ll be able to hit those goals if I try hard enough.

What are some of your blogging goals? I’d LOVE to hear about them! x

Monthly Wrap Up

Okay, now for the wrap up of my posts! I’ll link the post and write a sentence or two about it so you can click on the one that sounds the best to you. I’m going to start doing roundups regularly, at least in the first few months of my blog. It helps me keep track of growth and whatnot. Anyway, let’s get into the wrap up! 🙂

Heavenward – Olga Gibbs

I reviewed this book for a blog tour held by Fraser’s Fun House for author Olga Gibbs. If you like fantasy and adventure, this is the book for you. It has an angelic theme to it as well so if you like angels, give this book a try!

2019 Most Anticipated Reads

I only did January and February but I might do these every couple of months or so!  In this post, I listed books I was excited for that were coming out in the first two months if 2019. Go check them out, most are YA books and they do sound really good!

Etsy Shop Review

I reviewed a bookmark from the Etsy shop LovelyLittleMkt and featured her shop. She has cute bookmarks, check them out! It includes a little blurb about her and her shop, a few questions I asked her, and then ends with my review.

Literary Tattoos

This is a series that I already love dearly(yes, even with only one post out so far). Sharing the literature we think is important enough to get on our bodies forever is fascinating! For the debut post, I featured a bunch of Sylvia Plath tattoos. I talk about her a little in the post and her poetry just blows me away so I definitely recommend taking a look!

Popular Book Series I Haven’t Read

This post was probably the most shamefully written one yet. There are SO many book series I haven’t read that were massively popular in their time. Most people have probably read most of those so…oops? Go check out my embarrassment! 😉

Book Related Valentine’s Day Gifts

This post has several ideas of gifts you can give to your significant other for Valentine’s Day. None of these are solely for couple so even if you’re single or just have a bookish friend in your life, these gifts are for you too! Take a look!

So this concludes my monthly wrap up!
I’d LOVE to hear your thoughts on this!

Pin this for later!

I’m so happy to hear that it’s motivating! I bail on mine a lot too but seeing a general layout of what I want really helps!

Well done on your Pinterest view count, that is really awesome! I’m currently trying to improve mine too, it was at like 6k and it’s gone up to 16k in two weeks just by manually pinning more and going on it more often. I’m trying to understand Tailwind but not sure if it is really necessary. You are doing amazing and I’m sure you will hit the 50k no problem! All the best with the rest of your goals too and I hope you have a fantastic month <3 xx

Thank you so much! Yeah, I’m sure tailwind has it’s good aspects but I did the trial month and even though my pins were “shared” my view count either stabilized or went down. Pinterest’s algorithm seems to prefer manually pinning since you’re clicking on more and spending more time on their site. I actually hit 55k today! ^^ So I don’t find tailwind necessary but maybe it’s more a niche dependent thing.
Thank you for reading and the well wishes!

I think you hit the nail on the head with what you said on your Twitter goal. Followers on social media are great, but to really get the most out of what the platforms offer it’s all about engagement. No point in collecting followers if you’ve got no connection with them. Congrats on a great month, I’m sure February will bring new accomplishments!

I completely agree! I used to think numbers were more important but now I’m realizing it’s about the connections if you want to retain any kind of engagement or even just have a support system.
      Thank you!
